The Mousetronauts
VINCI School Junior Robotics team is named after the mouse who “landed” on Mars with the NASA space shuttle – The Mousetronauts!
Students from Kindergarten and up can join the After-School program which runs from 3:45 to 4:45 pm. The team meets once or twice a week.
What Students Learn – Season 1
The Mousetronauts Winning Their First Medals at Jr FLL EXPO
– Understand the concept of simple machines and the key components, such as gears, pulleys, axles, motor etc.
– Learn how to work as a team
– Explore natural challenges facing today’s citizens of the world – tornado, flood, lightening, tsunami etc., and decide on a challenge to “blast”.
– Learn and reinforce math and science concepts such as forces, energy and energy transfer while building a solution for the natural disaster.
– Begin developing presentation skills by storytelling and showcasing the solution.
What Students Learn – Season 2
– Understand the concept of motor-powered machines by exploring the design and the components
– Explore simple computer-controlled motors and concept of human-machine interface
– Understand the concept of computer programming and be able to use simple interfaces to program a sequence of commands
– Continue to learn how to work as a team
– Learn and reinforce math and science concepts such as forces, speed, time, measurement
– Continue to develop presentation skills by storytelling and showcasing the solution.
Our Junior Robotics program leverages materials and main topics of Junior FLL, with additional learning related to Math and Science as well as Language Arts concerning scientific vocabulary, sketching for design, storyteling and presentation.
